POSEY COUNTY, Indiana — Approximately 1,400 acres of Indiana land – an island, on the Wabash River — will be offered at auction Wednesday, February 14. It will be the first time the property has been offered to the public in over 100 years. Regionally based William Wilson Auction Realty is the firm marketing the property and conducting the auction.
The land, located in Posey County, 10-miles west of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, will be offered in 11 tracts. The land tracts range in size from 22 acres to 340 acres, and bidders may bid on any combination of tracts or the entire property. Interestingly enough, all but 22 acres of the island are located on the Illinois side of the Wabash River but all are considered Indiana land.
“This legendary island has been held together by individual land owners for nearly 200 years,” said long-time Auctioneer and Broker Bill Wilson, noting that the Greathouse heirs are the current owners and have held the farm for 100+ years themselves. Wm. Loudon owned the island prior to the Greathouse family.
“Someone could buy this entire island, it’s attractive tillable acres and all the rest, known by many to be outstanding wildlife habitat– which has produced quite a few trophy deer,” said Andrew Wilson, president of the company. “Bidders may bid on any individual tract, any combination of tracts, or the entirety. Some may seek the recreational land, whereas others may prefer the tillable land.”
Wilson personnel will be available at the island to accommodate inspections on Saturday February 3, from 12-3 PM CT; and again Wednesday, February 7 from 12-2 PM. Individuals seeking additional information may visit www.wilsonauctions.com or call for details.
The auction will begin at 12 NOON, on Wednesday, February 14, at The Auction Center, 1026 Granary Street in New Harmony, Indiana.
