United States Senate Designates April 18, 2009 National Auctioneers Day
Overland Park, Kan., April 2, 2009 - On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the United States Senate passed Senate Resolution 86. The resolution designates Saturday, April 18, 2009, 'National Auctioneers Day' in the United States. U.S. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas introduced S. Res. 86 on behalf of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) and its members.
"It's an honor to have the United States Senate recognize our profession and industry with the passing of S. Res. 86," said NAA President Randy Wells. "National Auctioneers Day is a day when all auctioneers can give thanks for their profession and the communities and industries that support them."
The NAA is the nation's largest professional association dedicated to the auction profession and industry. Headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, the NAA represents the interests of a broad and diverse range of auction professionals. Membership ranges from livestock and antique auctioneers, to real estate and auto auctioneers. In 2008, the live auction industry sold an estimated $268.4 billion in goods and assets in the United States.
The third Saturday of every April is celebrated by the NAA and its members as 'National Auctioneers Day'. Auctioneers recognize and celebrate this day by volunteering in their communities and conducting benefit auctions.
